DIY Deodorant

What is the craze about needing natural deodorant?

Everything you put on your skin is absorbed into the skin and into your bloodstream. Deodorants are full of toxic ingredients like parabens, aluminum, triclosan, phthalates and fragrance to name a few.

These toxins can be hormone/endocrine disruptors and potentially have a negative impact on your reproductive, neurological and immune systems. They contain carcinogens and the aluminum has been found to mimic estrogen which promotes the growth of breast cancer cells.

Toxins can also irritate the skin and cause itchiness, swelling, rashes, etc. Your armpit skin is extremely sensitive especially when you shave and have open skin. Switching to a safer alternative can help alleviate coming into contact with these harmful ingredients.

My favorite deodorant is one I make myself and before you even ask, yes it works!

The recipe is:

Wet ingredients

3 Tbsp Shea Butter

2 Tbsp coconut oil

10 drops young living essential oil ( I like 5 tea tree and 5 bergamot)

Dry ingredients

6 Tbsp arrowroot powder

1 Tbsp baking soda (aluminum free)

2 Tbsp bentonite clay

Combine the wet ingredients and mix well

Add in the dry ingredients and mix into a paste

To use – add a pea sized amount to your finger tip and rub into your armpit!

For colder climates you can warm it up a bit between your fingers before applying.

If DIY isn’t your style, Young Living makes a safer deodorant in a variety of scents!
