Essential Oils for Mindfulness

First things first, what is a mindfulness practice?

A mindfulness practice is a period of time you spend being in the present. This can look like taking a deep breath, pausing to reflect, journaling, writing gratitudes/affirmations, yoga, salt baths, long walks or a morning routine.

Everyone is different and that’s the beauty of it, do what works best for you. I personally love a morning routine to start the day off on the right foot. For me this means writing out what I’m grateful for, affirmations, and any intentions I’d like to set for the day. I use a few different essential oils during my affirmations to really enhance my practice.

There are 3 different ways to use Young Living Essential Oils. Aromatically, topically and internally with our vitality oils.

Aromatically

- Inhale the oil from the bottle

- Put a drop of oil on your palm rub your hands together and cup over your nose to breathe in deep

- Set the diffuser to create a relaxing environment

Topically

- Apply oils to your wrists, back of neck, bottoms of the feet

- Use oils in a rollon for ease of use

- Add oils to Epsom salts for a nice foot soak or bath

Internally

- Add a drop of lemon vitality to your water in the morning or throughout the day

- Add a drop of peppermint to your afternoon tea for a boost in energy or for digestive support

- Use a veggie cap to make your own daily supplement

If you’re not sure where to start or you don’t currently have a mindfulness practice and would like to start one, I suggest the Good Day Protocol. This protocol was created by Gary Young and I absolutely love it. Here are the oils used and how to use them. I began doing this practice and started to incorporate other oils and affirmations as time went on. Customize it to work for you!

Good Day Protocol

1. Valor – Place 1 drop on the inside of your left wrist and hold the inside of your right wrist to your left wrist for a few moments to balance your entire body

2. Harmony- Apply 1 drop just above your belly button (below sternum) to calm your mind and promote positive feelings

3. Joy- Apply 1 drop just above your heart to help bring feelings of happiness to your mind and body

4. White Angelica- Place 1 drop in the palm of your hand and rub hands together. Lightly brush your hands over your head, face, shoulders, chest and down your body (over your clothes) as if applying a shield

5. Final Step- Cup your hands over your nose and breathe deeply for 10 seconds

There are so many amazing ways to incorporate essential oils into your everyday routine. I would love to hear what your mindfulness practice is, how you use oils, or if you’re looking to start one! Feel free to comment or reach out if you’re looking for suggestions.
